It would know to 'shut that bloody door!'

It would also stop the phone ringing for automated calls...

I noticed you omitted any reference to computers. Was that on purpose?

Sorry! It slipped my mind. Maybe because I'm so accustomed to these things.

A system for recognizing and keeping CR4 members out would be a good start.

Hello ravi00bkp,

Only people can be intelligent.

A room is not a person.

Therefore a room cannot ever be intelligent.

Perhaps you mean some other description for a type of room.

Hope that assists you.....

You say you need an idea (topic) to be discussed by everyone. How about discussing the effect on weather of reducing millions of tons of particulates from the air. Newsweek magazine said that when all jet aircraft were grounded for two days after the 9/11 attack, the lack of contrails in the atmosphere caused the maximum average earth temperature and the minimum average earth temperature to change by one degree. The maximum average earth temperature went up by one degree, and the minimum average earth temperature went down by one degree for each of those two days. I have never seen a scientific paper on the effect, if any, on our weather due to our taking pollutants out of our air. I have seen news stories saying storms and floods seem more intense lately. Is there any cause and effect here?

n as far as the weather situation it might have something to do w/the moon receeding away from the earth by about a meter,or less, a year.

Re: Intelligent room

By intelligent room I'm guessing an automated one with respect to:

environment; communications; security; comfort; waste; lighting; entertainment; entertaining.

Given that this is based on the function of the room. A bathroom is not a kitchen or a bedroom.

As stated we don't have an AI (artificial Intelligence) so no room can be intelligent, but one can be programed to be automatic to the desires of the user.

Complexity of: self repairing, range of functions, least probable scenarios, un foreseen scenarios, upgrade ability, disaster recovery, crackers, self testing, etc. adds cost and higher failure rates.

How far is practical or possible?

2cents

It MUST tell me where the damn remote is! Also a little help with the car keys from time to time. Oh and toys. Can it pick up toys. How about crayola and markers. Can it remove fingernail polish from the carpet? And sound dampers - so the neighbors don't think I'm strangling the kids when in fact they are throwing a fit over Spiderman vs Hannah Montana on the tv.

Can it do diapers?

Equal acoustics: Set up a video moniter to track people by pixels or something along those lines and then use this data to adjust an equalizer to allow a person walking around the room to not be subject to drop outs due to room modes. Or, change the orientation of the sound source instead of equalization, or both.

I understand that Bill Gates' house has sensors in each room to detect an RFID chip each person wears that will then begin to play background music from their personal collections each time they enter a new room.

I visualize Bill entering the room and the Imperial March from Star Wars begins to play...

In this same line, I also read that their were large LCD "picture frames" all over the house. The same RFID data indicated what pictures to show based on the preferences of the people in the room.

Hello TRex,

That would be interesting if 20 persons enter the room.

Which person is going to get their music played?

Or is each person going to hear only their music, done not by wires or wireless, but by real-time phase alterations, so that at their ears they only hear their own music, all other audio except conversation directed to that person is cancelled out.

No doubt it is technically possible.

But would it be worthwhile?.........

My version of intelligent room must have voice recognition feature, for me to control all the equipments in my room by talking to them, if it can also talk to report the status, that will be much better. All the equipments means your Audio, Video, Lighting, Ventilation, Curtain , bed temperature, openning and closing of door and windows and any other gadgets that you may have in your room are connected and controlled by your computer or link to your computer. I've watched an advertisement by Microsoft some time ago about the possibility of doing all this.

Re: Intelligent room

how about this in order for a roomn to be considered intelligent it must do things normally a human would do automatically hence it must be automated.

1. Upon entrance to the room lights must turn on. To add more effects choose lights that demonstrated mood hence when one enter the house via biometric means their or general well being is already being measured.

2. The favorite music of the owner whould be playing.

3.If not music the Plasma screen should turn on to their favorite tv station or somethign to that effect.

4. AC should be automatically switching on as well keeping in touch with the number of person coming in therby keeping the inside temperature & humidity well check.

5. Upon hitting his "lazy" chair depending on the well being before they enter the appropriate massage should be given to the person thereby energizing & revitalizing the person.

well there are more but thats for now...

cheers

dave

All these are 'neat' but who prioritizes the hierarchy? If my Mrs. is watching Survivor and every time I walk in to the room The Dropkick Murphy's comes on the sound system or Modern Marvels on the TV, well, then we have a problem.

A system of philosophical concepts pertaining to the role of technology in society and its effects on humanity?
