Piezo Actuators Source

07/10/2025 5:55 AM

We currently have a product that, at it's heart, uses a piezo actuator or piezo translator to quickly open & close a valve aperture to emit pulses of gas. The actuator supplier has advised us that their product has been discontinued & I am struggling to find an alternative. All the ones I can see on the market have around 30µm axial movement but we need 200µm movement.

The current actuator is a disc, 50mm diameter, 5mm thick & with a 10mm centre hole. Can anyone suggest any potential suppliers for a replacement part?

Piezo.com offers custom builds. A significant tooling fee for non-standard products is understandable. It might be cheaper to buy a suitable standard piezo product, but then change the easier-to-machine parts that the piezo manipulates.

I used Piezo products in my last job and can vouch for the quality of their products.

Thanks for that, I will check them out. Our useage is quite low so a custom part is probably not feasible but they may have a stock part we can use.

Normally a supplier who is discontinuing production offers a final order program.
What you don't say is how often you change the parts ? is it a part with a limited lifespan ? Did you ask your current supplier if they could offer an extended production to cover your needs going forward ?

Sorry for a late reply, I seem to have stopped getting e-mail notifications.

The supplier was not interested in extended production, they have discontinued the range because of low demand.
