Hello from Germany – Excited to Join CR4 Community!

09/09/2025 9:47 PM

Hello everyone,

I just registered on CR4 today and would like to briefly introduce myself.
I am based in Hamburg, Germany, and have been working in the field of inorganic materials and engineering applications. My main interests are:

  • High-purity metallic and ceramic powders used in PVD, sputtering, and thin film deposition
  • Advanced sputtering targets for semiconductors, optics, and energy devices
  • Applications of functional materials in electronics, renewable energy, and medical technology

I’m looking forward to learning from the discussions here, sharing some of my experiences in material processing (e.g., hydrogen reduction, isostatic pressing, sintering), and exchanging ideas with fellow engineers.

If anyone here is also working on thin film deposition, coating materials, or high-purity inorganic compounds, I would be very interested to connect and exchange practical experiences.

Thanks for welcoming me to the community.

If there was anybody working in this area, it's not likely that they would be open to sharing any proprietary information...

Your background in inorganic materials and thin film applications sounds like a perfect fit for many of the discussions on this forum. Topics like high-purity powders, sputtering targets, and processing methods such as hydrogen reduction and sintering come up quite often, so I’m sure your experience will be valuable to others. I’m also looking forward to learning from your insights, especially around practical challenges in material processing and coating technologies. Hope you enjoy the discussions here and feel free to jump in anytime—this is a pretty open and knowledge-sharing community.

Hi Andrew, welcome to CR4 ! I'm assuming (assumptions always carry a risk of being wrong) from your name you are a Brit !
I am also originally a Brit ( now have dual citizenship, Brit and German) and live about 100kms south from Hamburg.
I have had experience of Spluttering techniques used in Automotive and Avionic Warfare, Thin film coatings on Ceramics used in Oxygen, Nitrous and Hydrogen Sensors and other electronic ceramic PCB's. etc. involving extreme temparatures
I also worked at LAM Research in the "Wafer Washing" process involved in the production of Chips, after the deposition processes.

If you want, we can have a Beer or three and discuss things together, in person, or should i say in the Pub ?

Spluttering? I sometimes do that when I've had a stein or 2!

@ Codemaster, you obviously have a problem holding your drink if you are already spluttering after only 1 or 2 beers,,, I need a lot more before I even reach that stage..
For the others that might be wondering what "Spluttering" is, here's a link which explains it !

It was a joke, and I know what sputtering is. You said spluttering.
