Good tensile strength (aircraft), not compression strength (submarines).

I'm amazed at how they can make carbon fit in the strangest forms, whilst keeping its strength and light mass advantage. I do mountain-biking, and the forces are large, and the frames just handle it. I mean, one-sided front-forks (lefties), really! Other people will find better uses for it

It does seem to be suited to items where low mass and precise shapes are required, and where costs are not that critical.
