Bonding Tempered Glass To Glossy ABS

10/16/2026 5:09 AM

Hello! Anyone have a suggestion for an adhesive/sealant/glue that will bond tempered glass to glossy ABS plastic? Constraints are: *This a sliding door handle of a horizontal ice-cream refrigerator which is -20 C inside, * don't prefer 2K adhesives or sealants, * handling time 2-3 hours, * breaking strength 35 Newton, not possible to use CA or UV adhesives. Thanks in advance

look at a one-part MS polymer adhesive, such as TaftGrip. It's listed for glass and ABS, with a service temperature down to -40°C. The catch is cure time: it needs about 24 hours for functional cure, so don't confuse initial grip with load-bearing strength. Lightly abrade the glossy ABS, clean both surfaces with a compatible cleaner, and test the actual parts first. If you need the full 35 N strength within 2–3 hours, confirm that requirement with the adhesive supplier before committing.

Thanks for your suggestion, I've tried MS-polymer but it's not good at ABS it sticks to glass but not ABS. Also full strength is 24 hours which is late for us.

What else have you tried that has yielded unsatisfactory results?

It is of little use for the forum to create here a list of your known ‘Doesn’t work satisfactorily because…’ products. If you already know that some products or processes commonly available will not give the results desired, please, do, let us know about them.

Is it feasible to investigate the details about some other application that is proven successful? As an example, a sliding glass top Self-Serve ice cream freezer with an adhesive applied handle… if a replacement handle for their unit is available through a repair parts channel, it could possibly be supplied with a tube of appropriate adhesive. They might slip up a bit and include in their sales propaganda an image of the stuff that is provided. Don’t forget to consider the composition of their plastic handle.

I would consider this scenario right on the edge of being uncompensated appropriation of Intellectual Property; please act accordingly and responsibly.

3M is a great place to start your research for an appropriate adhesive:

VHB tapes might be a good choice but you want to be practiced when laying down the item to be bonded. You usually don't get a "second chance" when positioning the item.
