Explorer 7

12/14/2007 9:56 AM

One of my coworkers has recently installed Explorer 7 to his Vista based PC. He is now not able to set his home page to other than MSN. Does everyone have this problem or is this specific to his machine. If anyone has a solution, please pass it on to me. Thank You!!

I'm running XP with internet E7 and this works for me. I hope this will work for you. Go to tools select internet options then select the general tab in the home page window delet msn and type in the home page you want.

I run Explorer 7 on XP and have no problems... The only thing I can think of that's wrong is he loaded Windows Vista.

Silicon Valley? Hum, I have to say it but Vista sucks for trying to do business thingies. Graphics, etc are for the Gamers and surfers. Security really slows stuff down, aftermarket software used with XP does just as good. Vista on my new Laptop wouldn't recognize a legal copy of Office 2003 (I had to buy another one), some scanner and camera software that is new and listed as compatible (had to download drivers from HP to make these work), and so forth. IE7 is there and it lets me default my homepage easily though. The only thing I have seen working quickly and seamlessly in Vista is MS System Tools. Can't the Home Page be changed in Internet options?

And, I leave with this thought, that really makes me wonder.

I do not disagree with you... Moving to XP stung me like a big-dog!!! I had to replace so much software, and it really, REALLY hurt!!!

Now, I have high-priced copies of Photoshop, Illustrator, and several other apps. I just know if I upgrade to Vista, I'll have to pull even more money out of my ass. And what would I gain by moving to Vista? Screw Bill Gates and the whole Microsoft mess!!! Things work really great now... Why change?!

So true, the listed are only the beginning for software.

I wish my peers would all go to Open Source, I use these personally, but business, no.

Ach, every time I try to post on this Laptop, I have to re-log in.

Haven't a clue why.

I was assuming of course, he already tried "Tools/internet options/general/home page..."

As I believe, we all did. That usually fixes it. I have had to do it a couple of times as some automatic updates installed (bios and the like), but it settled down and recognizes my ISP now.

Check the Default Programs under the start menu and check there.

...I understood that as well, but I feel he either had not tried properly or had not got a clue as he is stuck with MSN home page he said and Microsoft would be in big trouble if they started hijacking browsers......any other web site (almost) and I would agree with you!

Or the installation has revealed a bug of course, that is almost possible.....

Have a great day

I moved to Mandriva Linux and have had no problems with this system even on my older, slower machine. I have XP on a second machine and Vista available on a Laptop. I wouldn't give Vista room on any machine. I am currently switching to Linux on the laptop.

I think it is unconcionable that Bill Gates can put such garbage on the market and expect the user community to solve the problems generated by his costly software.

I have seriously thought about switching to Linux, but have my concerns about using it, but I wonder about my peers who have kowtowed to Bill Gates and became enslaved by all of his crap.

I use Open Office personally, but have had clerks in office mess up and not be able to open docs, even if I save in XP.

Until USA business' get over their laziness Gates will continue his mastery.

Sometimes think that he is the Anti-Christ LOL.

Stop it with the Bill Gates hype, you must be out of the loop:

HE_IS_NO_LONGER_IN_BUSINESS.

HE_RETIRED_IN_2006.

- Unlike myself, he could afford to...

It's an interesting situation...

What would it be like to lean back in your chair, put your feet up, and be able to say to yourself, "Huh! I'm the richest man in the world! How about that!"

I have a friend that absolutely swears by LINUX!!! Of course, he's a software engineer with some 30 years experience programming and using UNIX. If he gets a new video card, and there are no LINUX drivers (and there never are), he just writes a driver in C and drops it into his operating system. How simple!!!

Look, unless you want to get really, really, REALLY computer literate real fast, forget it. 99% of any software you want to run, you'll have to recreate all-by-yourself. Of course, my friend doesn't mind this at all - two reasons...

  1. He can.
  2. But he doesn't because all he's interested in are programming tools - he couldn't give a rats ass about Office, or Photoshop, or gaming of any kind.

Absolutely. Although I have a friend who runs Red-Hat Linux to show his friends how cool and advanced he is (with his Desktop to follow), but unless it's to impress friends with tinkering the desktop and some bullshit applets bundled there, he does absolutely nothing (else) with it.

Except of course, use XP on his Laptop...

Are we sheep?

It's kind of like those people that spend $100,000 on an audio system, but never enjoy the music. They're more interested in being able to say that their system can do more than your system...

"So why don't you listen to the friggin' music?!"

THAT, and you'll never be able to enjoy the quality of, say, digital master recording coming from, say 20,000 $ speakers, as you would from 50 $ headphones...

Not to mention, having a 4000 $ Dell laptop with only MS-Word in it...

In Arabic it's called "Shoofoony Yaa Nass" - meaning "Look At Me People"

This suspiciously sounds like a homepage hijack. Check for new "too-good-to-be-true shareware" installation, or spyware contamination of some sort. Did you sign for the free edition of "Nod-32" perhaps ?

Could be, but I doubt if it would only go to MSN as described, Bill Gates would never live it down....

The person has simply not told IE7 where is home page is located I expect.....when all else fails, he should have read the manual!!

Have a great day

Oh, there's a great idea... You can spend all day going "Oooh this interface is so cool! I sure wish someone would write some software for it!!!"

And if you find a really hot game or something else that needs graphics capabilities, that graphics card is going to cost you something like $1,700.00, because they sell so few!
