seawater desalination

need some related expressions for designing an RO unit for sea water desalination.here we combine membrane technology and thermal energy...the separation is made by using temperature gradient...

Hello

I am doing " RO Design ".You knoe at first you should define :

  1. Feed Flow Rate
  2. Permeate Flow Rate

Depending on this you will find the recovery . R= P/F

Then you will choose on of " Design Softwares " .I am using ROSA.You can easily downloaded from internet.

Then there will be instructions that can help you in understanding how you can make design for this.

I will be ready to answer you if you want anything.

Thank you for sharing information about the ROSA resource offered by Dow/Film-Tec. What an incredible tool to learn more about desalination systems and Reverse Osmosis!

Why do you suppose Dow would offer this information for free on the internet to all, including their competitors?

suggest you consider a "greenhouse" set at a level that sea water is fed into a shallow blackened tub structure at high tide and drained out of the tub structure at low tide. The tub structure is enclosed in a transparent greenhouse type building where the slopping walls and roof would allow condensed water to run into troughs for collection in a sump. From the sump, the "distilled" water can be feed into any sort of pipeline for distribution. This is the simplest method and is very energy efficient since only energy required for operation is the sun and the pumps to distribute the water after collection. Of course, energy would be required to manufacture the tub and greenhouse structure, sump and pump(s). For electric power, consider solar cells and/or fuel cells.

There are so many playes in the market place that it may prove more economic just to buy one. They range in size from small hand-operated ones for the solo cross-Atlantic rower, to major municipal installations like the ones in Larnaca, Cyprus.
