Ferrite Steel Washers

12/19/2007 1:20 AM

RESPECTED MEMBERS,

I would like to know the manufacturer procedure, I could adopt for manufacturing FERRITE STEEL WASHERS,[AISI 430] for 27.00mm dia. I would request suggestions on this with context that, it has to be huge productive technology. The washers have to be annealed and finished. For which I was presuming to go with, deburring and shot blasting or vibratory finish process. do guide me. please.

thank you,

yours sincerely

Depends on thickness and tolerances, can you complete?

Hi raimon,

Sorry for the delay as I was out of the city. Well, apologies again for the short infor. but the thickness would be 2.5 - 3.0mm. tolerance +/-.5mm. Hope the infor completes the base. I anxiously await to hear from you.

Thanks again, RAIMON

Stamp from flat roll with a punch press.

Machining from bar stock will leave too much kerf loss, though a rotary saw for cutoff on screw machine will minimize this.

shot blasting is a no no- the iron dust will contaminate and nucleate rust.

Thanks Milo,

so after annealing, for the smooth surface finish, I presume I should opt for vibrator or rotary drum [with ceramic bits].Or that would give dents on the surface? If so, how about grinding, on rotary or horizontal surface grinder?

kindly guide please.

thanks again for the time to reply

The flat roll should have a smooth surface finish.

Not sure why you want to anneal. Its a washer, not a high stress part.

If you anneal in vacuum, it will retain its bright finish.

vibrator or rotary tumble will give adefinite texture.

I can't imagine why you'd want to surface grind- and again that would require a passivation to prevent future rust.

Your questions seem determined to add cost to what should be a very simple process.
