Water Pump to Operate in a Close Loop System

03/23/2006 8:16 AM

I need a water pump to operate in a close loop system. The pressure in the system is about 50psi. but, there would be only about 10psi. of head pressure. The pump needs to be very reliable but would run only about half the time. 110v. ac or less would be good. The product pumped would be water with a temperature range of from 50 degrees to 150 degrees. This would be a low volume pump and would need to be adjustable. The pumped volume would be about 2 or 3 gpm. The connections should pipe or equivalent.

My first reaction would be to say check out Bell & Gossett or Taco pump websites for product selection. What kind of adjustmentss are you wanting to make? Why adjustable and on-off operation? Is this temperature control or mixing operation?

This sounds like a solar system circulating pump. Grundfos do indeed make one for this application and the control sytem. Grundfos and Lowarra also make variable speed drives for pumping systems. Give Global Spec a go.

There are a group in Brisbane working on storage of Solar heat, I'll need their permission before I give out information though. Their prototype stores about 100kwh per day. It can be scaled, but I don't know by what factor.
