Torque measurement

03/23/2006 6:53 AM

I need to measure torque on a scaled-down model of wind turbines/windmills, speed about 15-40 rpm, but I cannot find out how to do it/where to get a suitable torque sensor from. Any advice?

How big is the scale model? What's the range of torque you need to measure? You are aware, I hope, that torque does not scale down linearly with size of a wind turbine, aren't you? Check out HBM for torque transducers.

Either of the following two products manufactured by Magtrol, Inc. are appropriate for torque measurement on a scaled-down model of wind turbines/windmills (depending on mounting restrictions).

Magtrol's TM Series In-Line Torque Transducers

Magtrol's TF Series Torque Flange Sensors

For technical specifications on these products and more information about Magtrol's innovative Torque Measuring solutions, visit: http://www.magtrol.com/

Try this website. I've used their units for testing ball joints. I don't know if they are in your range, but the site has good info. http://www.himmelstein.com/default.asp "I say if you don't know where your nuts are, just torque 'em.

YOU WILL FIND ANSWERS IN A FREE-BODY DIAGRAM OF ALL THE EXTERNAL FORCES ACTING IN YOUR MACHINE. I COULD REFER YOU TO THE BOOK "DESIGN OF MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS" (or something like that) BY ERNEST O. DOEBELIN.
