Has anyone heard of using a Centrifigal Chiller to make Ice for thermal cooling for Air conditioning, basically off peak cooling? The ones I have installed have always been reciprocating or screw compressors.
Centrifugals will not work in this application according to the DLT application manual. they can't pull down to ice building temperatures, hope this helps you.
centrifugals are traditional used for the chilled water temp range
scrolls tend to werk in a narrow amp range, bad when ice builds up / amps hold up even though suction pressure goes down /
a mix of scroll and reciprocating compressor seems to the most
economical way / scroll for hi temp , reciprocating compressors for
low temp /
