iPod: deep freeze!

12/23/2007 4:24 PM

Hello colleagues; Merry Christmas to all! My youngest daugther has brought an iPod for me to check-out; it froze while listening to music. I know zip about these things. The question is; Does anyone know what iPod website I should go to?

You can start here: http://www.apple.com/support/

Delete the song (if you remember what song was playing) that caused it to lock up. I have noticed some models- like NANOs- do not have a reset or a hardwired power switch. When they lock up (and they do lock up) you have to wait for them to use all of their battery power, then plug into computer and it will reset.

You should also install "ITunes" software (it is free) to help manage, and configure the settings.

Merry Christmas, hope this helps.

Go to the I tunes site and the Ipod manuals are all there. There is a combination of keys to reset the unit.

You've rec'd great advice already; For those of us who use books, the Ipod and itunes missing manual book by Oreilly Press is an PH.D in all things ipod.

Scott Kelby's ipod book is great for new users, and he writes in a very enjoyable style.

Hi Ronald,

I have an Ipod Video and have a similar problem such that it sometimes freezes on songs that has an error or bad format.

The easiest way for me is to toggle the keypad lock on and off then holding down the menu button and centre button for at least 5 seconds and the ipod should reset.

If this does not work, the other way is to wait till the power has been depleted from the ipod and just recharge it....although the ipod will get pretty hot if it still has a lot of juice in it.

Also, don't forget to double check the song that it frozed on. Make sure it is not a badly formatted song. Delete it if necessary from your ipod to prevent it from freezing again.

Hope this helps =)

Ronald...

To keep you informed on freezing iPods, I had mine freeze up while working in the garage at -12C. The thing just stopped, so I brought it indoors to poke around inside and couldn't find too much to poke without damaging it so I left it for a couple of hours, after it warmed up it worked okay, and just to prove it wasn't my imagination I did exactly the same thing next day. - I don't s'pose they were meant to be used in those tempratures... you'd think they'd put that on the box wouldn't you!?
