Looking For Adhesive Supplier

12/27/2007 12:43 PM

I am looking for an adhesives supplier that can provide me with small (1/8 x 1 1/4) strips of a flexible but aggressive adhesive to join to very small pieces of plastic for a new accessory in the hand-held game market.

Our product www.GameChains.com joins the very small Nintendo DS game chips to a custom laser-cut tab that allow the games to be joined to a powder-coated ball chain which lets the player have additional games at hand hanging right off the back of the game that happens to be in play. Tabs are available in various colors so games can be color coded for players in the the same household.

I have drawings available showing the way I need these adhesive strips to be arranged. If you are in the adhesives industry and want to take a shot at being our primary supplier, please drop me a line.

Thanks

Have you checked Loctite? They make adhesives for every application, including many solutions for the electronics industry.

Try Henkel Industries, they make Loctite.

Have you tried GlobalSpec?

I have tried globalSpec but am looking for a material that could ship with a dozen or so strips of a semi-flexible adhesive on a release liner.

Example: Pull back the release liner > push small part [A] to the goo, peal off with the part. Bush against part [B] and wait a minute for goo to harden.

Thank for the push though GlobalSpec is a great resource (if only I knew what I was looking for).

I've used 3Ms VHB tape in a similar way in the past. This can be supplied by a converter on a backing tape.

One word of caution, when I first used this product I purchased rolls of tape that were kiss cut into strips of adhesive on a backing strip but I found that the cuts would 'heal' over effectively turning the product back into a continuous roll of tape.

If you decide to use this very good product make sure your strips of tape have a definite separation between them.

Great comment. Thank you. This is a situation that a converter I tested mentoned too, but is a valuable one to anyone who reads this thread.

I plan on including a release liner with 20 small adhesive units on it with my small products, so a double-sided material has always been my intention.

I'll put all of the groups comments to work and get moving.

Thank you

Double-sided adhesive tape, perhaps?

Depending upon the plastics involved, a solvent-weld solution using CH2Cl2 might work? It is sold in many hobby shops locally branded as either 'Plastic Weld' or 'MekPak' (usual disclaimer). A small bottle for experimentation won't break the bank. Take it easy, though, and use the stuff in a well-ventilated place free from possible sources of ignition.

Glad you were able to find your solution. If your preference is for cut to size pieces on a common liner to ease application, we may have a solution for you. We can provide some 3M VHB tapes pre-cut on a common liner. There can be issues with the tape welding back together as previously stated, but we have found a special top liner that allows cut pieces to be separated easily without welding back. It depends on the type of VHB you are using.

Contact info@duracoinc.com for more information or to request free samples.
