I need to buy some small turbine blades for a prototype, radius of 1-1.5 meters can anyone help. price is an issue so second hand or cheap is ok

Best Regards Cliff

What would you like them made out of? What kind of turbine? Don't be lazy, be specific.

Ok I really have to be careful here because of my patent status so please forgive me if i seem to be slightly backwards at coming for wards. I need two three blade turbine hubs there total diameter should be no more than three meters. i would like a blade made from efficient materials as this will be part of a test rig which i am building at home. They should be of the horizontal type and should have a fixed pitch. I am really just in search of blades and possibly a few hub components. I have thought about contacting a turbine manufacturer and just asking for some spares but I don't know who produces blades of this size as I come from a different field. Hope this helps and Thanks..... Cliff

You use the term "turbine" but do you actually mean wind mill propeller? Or is this a vertical axis savornius rotor? A google search of windmills, Wind generators, wind power, will yield more than a few hits of production model wind generators. If you delve into the realm of DIY wind generator fabrication you can find any number of how-to articles dealing with home made blades. Some crude, some extremely elegant and aerodynamic. Take your pick. Last week I read about a nice design cut from straight PVC piping. Pick your lenght! Any machine shop can turn you a hub of the requisite bore hole size and overall diameter to bolt the blades to. Unless the hub itself is an essential element of your patent; no worries.

It was in the CR4 discussion on permanent magnet generators for use with wind power. Following the links provided I ended up on a website relating how one guy built his own and created prop blades by cutting up 4" diameter PVC tubing. The cut was on a slant and produced a tapered blade having a cord shaped by the conical section of pipe off-cut. As I understood the description the angled cut produced a curved foil shape with aerodynamic qualities.

Can you provide for me additional information about your small wind turbine blade manufacturing capabilities?

Hello Cliff, I think that elnav is referring to this link : http://www.mdpub.com/Wind_Turbine/index.html

, I saw it as refreshing new thoughts and very innovative design with a lot of emphasis on the price and, not least, the effort one have to put up with to manufacture usable stuff.

Here where I live, I have to consider building regulating heights up to 8,5 m and rotordiameter of max 2 m. But thats just motivation to make the best possible windmill on my site.

I'm, btw, looking for a very efficient design concerning the magnets and coil issue, so far I havent found the right solution yet, and I think I have to have some iron in the design to get a proper efficiency, but without cogging, are there anybody with ideas?

best regards and happy new year, moe

Yes! that is the website. My wife's uncle has a wind generator that shredded its blades. i am going to see if he is willing to let me experiment and fabricate a set like those illustrated

He lives completely off grid. It was just too expensive to bring utility power out to the old homestead. So he resorts to other means. You would never realize the house is off grid to look at the interior. Computers, large screen TV, hot tubs, and other electrical appliances galore. With the rising cost of diesel fuel the genset approach is getting too expensive. So now we explore alternatives.

in the old days there used to be wind chargers 24volt on old farm sites . also over houred airplane props.

I see reference to voltage for older wind generators; but it appears that newer wind generators tend to let the batteries themselves do the regulation. Once the sysem charge voltage reaches a peak then a controlle simply dumps the output of the wind generator into a resistive heat dissipator. Do any of the new generation wind mills still use a regulated field or equivalent? Lately most product website are not particularly forthcoming with technical details.
