X Proof GC/TCD for Monitoring NH3 in Methanol, On-Line

12/30/2007 1:28 AM

I am looking for an inexpesive X proof GC/TCD for monitoring on-line the concentration of ammonia in mathanol.

Please, can you offer such?

Please, can you suggest an alternative method for monitoring the ammonia in methanol, on-line

Hey Doc,

Please register!

Do you mean methanol or methane? Looks like you are dealing w/ fertilizer or some related process.

Did you try a global spec search?

Here's a link for a dedicated chemistry forum: https://www.chemicalforums.com/

I'm interested in methanol production methods, also!

Let us know what you find, please.

If the ammonia is a vapor/gas then you can buy sensors that can detect the parts-per-million.

I'm not aware of any sensors that can detect the quantity of ammonia in a liquid state, other than something simple like a level sensor. But as your question would lead me to believe, that would not work as you're trying to distinguish between to substances.

This site has aqueous sensors for ammonia, but you will have to find out if the sensor is capable of being exposed to methane/methanol without damage.
