how can i find out if my voltgage regulator is bad on my motorcycle?

Attach a volt meter to your battery terminals and start the engine. You should see the voltage climb steadily with engine RPM's until your threshold voltage is reached. After that the voltage should remain steady regardless of higher RPM's. Your service manual should list the threshold voltage and approximate RPM's where you will see it.
