CONDUCTIVE CARBON BLACK

01/01/2008 3:38 AM

Dear friends,

I am looking for a Rubber grade Carbon Black which when added into a rubber compound, makes it substantially conductive to electricity. If the Carbon is available in India, please give the address/web site/email ID of the supplier/manufacturer. We can also import the material if not available in India. Please help.

Best regards,

Kusari

I am just feeling very curious about it...Which is the application in which you require rubber made conductive through carbon black filler?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

The more conductive form of carbon black is graphitic carbon. We use this material to create conductive PTFE coatings...different from your application...but with the same end result. The level of conductivity we achieve is only "static dissipative " ..not capable of conducting any serious amperage.

In our industry the graphite is used as an aqueous dispersion. One trade name for this is Aquadag.....manufactured by Acheson...a division of ICI...you can do your own web searcch to find local availability

You may also want to consider graphite fibers...also conductive and they may add other physical properties of interest to you

Ten years ago I had a pair of ESD shoes. It appears they made the soles from carbon black impregnated rubber to get a 1Mega ohm resistance. They worked good until the rubber failed and cracked. Just a issue to watch out for.

The Cabot Corporation would be happy to help you with your application. Our website is www.cabot-corp.com. Unfortunately, I do not work for Cabot's Carbon Black division (but rather another division) so I cannot provide you with our India Sales Representative's name or email. However, I have spoken with several colleagues here at Cabot and we certainly have a Carbon Black grade that makes rubber electrically conductive. I will continue to post any further info as it comes to me. Best of luck.

We use graphitic carbon as an additive in conveyor belts. In our case the belts are silicone rubber or teflon coated. The graphite gives enough conductivity to impart "static dissipative " performance. This prevents the buildup of static electricity in a conveyor belt. Static discharge can be an annoyance when it discharges to a person or it can be a HUGE safety issue when there are flammable or explosive vapors or airborne dust present

If the belt is "static dissipative, there will be no chance of the static charge building up to the point of creating an arc of static electricity to a nearby ground. (e.g. machine frame or machine operator)

Shandong Bestar Carbon Black Factory, the National Owned Enterprise, produces New Technology Carbon Black. All the exhaust gases generated during the production are exploited to generate thermal power, realized the harmonius unity of economic efficiency and environment protection.

The factory is design 200,000 tons annual capacity, to be covered in three phases. The second phase has been successfully put into production, annual carbon black production capacity has reached 120,000 tons. We mainly produce N210, N220, N234, N326, N330, N375, N539, N550, N660, and other various types of rubber carbon black. With excellent product quality, stable production technology parameters, reasonable prices, our carbon black has won praise from customers home and abroad.
