ASTM metal matrix composite standard vs. ASTM metallic standard?

Daily, I deal with ASTM standards for material specifications, but I don't see ASTM metal matrix composite standard.

If you are doing research as a part of getting an advanced degree, then I would suggest that you pose the question to your faculty sponsor. Likewise for research for a corporation or individual. If you're doing it on your own, then you must decide for yourself.

Many ASTM standards are developed in conjunction with or subsequent to advanced materials research, because there is no standard.

This also sounds like research that reaches deeply into the research on materials in Nanotechnology, too. You might want to contact MIT for some input. It is about time that we start looking at replacing steel, aluminum, and wood as the standard material for manufacturing and construction with composites just as has been done in the Aerospace industry.

The ASTM Metal Matrix composite standard that is is listed in the current (2007) index is just a test method:

C 1557 ( in vol.15.01)Tensile Strength and Youngs modulus of Fibers, Test Method For

This seems to be the only such listing for this nominal material class.

If you are asking if you can substitute a standard metallic test procedure for testing this material, I would say that you are flying against the wisdom of the experts who crafted this test method to take into account the nature of metal matrix composites.

If you are asking can you substitute a plain metal structural element for a metal matrix composite, I would urge you to do the engineering, not poll a well meaning public.

Thanks for replying me..Can you give me some suggestions on which homepage or manufacturers websites i can refer? Actually i have to mix two different powder together which consists of Aluminium powder and original RP powder used in Z-Corp 3D Printer. Can i mix like that? From previous research, my senior has sucessfully mixed those powder i have mentiond just now. From your opinion, do you think it becomes CMC OR MMC? Because it consists a lot of ceramic powder (original RP powder) compared to Al powder. Can i treat it as MMC? After that, it'll be fabricated using Z-Corp 3D Printer..Then,the spesimen'll go through sintering process. Then, i'll conduct tensile test on it. I also will use Taguchi method( DOE) to analyse the result..I have to determine the main effect, ANOVA and the optimum contidion for those spesimen..
