There's a huge range of rotary encoders available, with resolutions from 16 to 1024 steps per rev (and more), and several different methods of switching and output encoding etc.

What is your application? Do you need an absolute or incremental model? How deep is your pocket?

I work as an electrical engineer for an encoder company.
