Red Neck Engineering Exam, Excerpt

01/03/2008 7:49 PM

Which of the following cars will rust out the quickest when placed on blocks in your front yard? 66 Ford Fairlane, 69 Chevrolet Chevelle, 64 Pontiac GTO.

If your uncle builds a still that operates at a capacity of 20 gallons of shine per hour, how many car radiators are necessary to condense the product?

A woodcutter has a chain saw that operates at 2700 rpm. The density of the pine trees in a plot to be harvested is 470 per acre. The plot is 2.3 acres in size. The average tree diameter is 14 inches. How many Budweisers will it take to cut the trees?

If every old refrigerator in the state vented a charge of R-12 simultaneously, what would be the decrease in the ozone layer?

A front porch is constructed of 2x8 pine on 24-inch centers with a field rock foundation. The span is 8 feet and the porch length is 16 feet. The porch floor is 1-inch rough sawn pine. When the porch collapses, how many hound dogs will be killed?

"66 Ford Fairlane, 69 Chevrolet Chevelle, 64 Pontiac GTO." A: How would I no? Never had a car that new!

"how many car radiators are necessary to condense the product?" A: 2. One for sellin, an one for the drinkin kind.

"How many Budweisers will it take to cut the trees?" A: 12 for the woodcutter, and 3 to keep the chain cool.

"If every old refrigerator in the state vented a charge of R-12 simultaneously, what would be the decrease in the ozone layer?" A: That's a trick question. If it still has R-12 in it, it ain't "old" now is it?

"When the porch collapses, how many hound dogs will be killed?" A: ? I'm not sure. Is it coon huntin night?

Thanks for the laughter Stirling Stan!

Not all rednecks drink Bud. Some drink Coors, and in Texas they drink Lone Star. Also, are you talking about longnecks or tallboys? 3.2? Regular or Lite?

Shoot, you got the best doghouses in the world sitting right out there in the yard - raise the trunklids on those cars and throw a couple old gunny sacks in there.

Now, about those refrigerators. Are they on the front porch (meaning they're new enough to impress people) or in the shed (now, they're old but they can always be used as shelving after the R12 is gone)?

And why are you dulling that good Stihl on pine trees? What are you planning on taking with you in case a fight breaks out (like one never did) Saturday night down at the Dew Drop Inn?

By the way, before that Ford Fairlane completely rusts, give some thought to taking a hacksaw and turning it into a pickup truck; you're gonna need something to haul sugar back from Clyde's Store.
