Semi Trailer Landing Leg Test

01/07/2008 3:11 AM

I am in a search of test standrds or criterias for semi trailer landing legs (pls refer the product here: www.omsimpextr.com). I have built a test machine but dont know whether it must compy with any standard or criteria. And I dont have knowledge of any testing standard . So, could you be so kind as to tell me about it?

If you do not find specific criteria or standards let you guide by those for manual lifting devices which usually specify what conditions are to be fulfilled:

- force for action under max load

- collapsing load

Yes I almos did what you said. But these legs working between certain points. Like their travel distance under normal condtions 3 or 5 cm at each time when loaded. Nevertheless we regarded all strok as their travel distance such as 400mm. so, at the test leg travelled this distance contiounusly more than 20 times (20 cycle up and down). hovewer I am not fully satisfied if I am doing right performance test.

thank you very much for your comment anyway.

Regards

You should via a market research determine how many cycles would be required for the device during its whole life and if possible how will be the load frequency: how many times a given load will be applied. This can be a base for the control of the different designs. Knowing the loads, the number of cycles and the distribution you could develop a test with a single load but equivalent in wear and fatigue for all the load complex. The Milner-Palmgreen approach is the simplest for cumulative damage estimation. It will be of interest to test with a single load of different level the devices in order to obtain an indication for the tendency of a Wöhler curve. With this informations on hand you can design your test so that it can be very simple but cover all needs.

With respect to the static behaviour you should check the collapsing load at the highest extension since in this situation the stability is the most compromised by bending moments. You should as well analyse the behaviour with the different "feet" since the surface on which the semi-trailer will be stopped is not ideal by far.

In the U.S. I would search DOT and SAE for standards.

particularly if you can reach to Association of American Railroad Engineers and get their test criteria would be wonderful for me.
