About 24,567,123 volts AC should do it...

Seriously... with the lack of data in this question, how could anyone answer it in any way meaningful.

I have to ask... what the heck is a "DC engine" and why would you charge it?

In the Electrical Engineering sense, an "Engine" is usually a motor that converts thermal energy to mechanical energy, and a "Motor" is defined as a machine that produces motion or power for doing work. "Charging" would be defined as inputting electrical energy for storage and use at a later time.

I know of now "Engine" that would somehow take DC electricity in, convert it to heat, then reconvert it to mechanical power, that would make absolutely no sense.

So if you were referring to a DC motor, the concept of "charging" it would not make sense.

If you were referring to any electrical energy storage system, such as a battery, the concept of "Engine" (or Motor) then makes no sense.

Ok... so lets assume (ya I know what assumption can cause) for a second you meant a "motor" and not an "engine". Lets also assume by "charge" you really meant the "electrical charge" as in current.

If these assumptions are correct, to even begin to discuss an answer, you need to tell us what HP you need. HP is a product of the torque and shaft speed, in RPM, of the motor.

That's reciprocating DC right, and you want to change it to oscillating DC?

Please confirm!

use 12 volt or 24 volt batteries to charge a dc engine. the same concept as the alternator of an ordinary car. That should do it!
