Before you try to fly, you need to learn to walk.

Before looking at lean manufacturing or six sigma, look at ISO 9001:2000

Until you have an accurate picture of your processes and their capabilities, trying to apply lean manufacturing or six sigma is a waste of effort.

Also, consider whether these things are right for you. I have spoken to many people in this field, and there is much difference of opinion as to which is the best way to go, if either.
