The Hot Hybrid at the New York Auto Show

This week, Lexus presented the 2008 edition of the LS 600h at the New York International Auto Show. The world's first luxury hybrid sedan features a full-hybrid V8 powertrain, combining an all-new 5.0-liter gasoline engine with large, high-output electric motors and a newly designed large-capacity battery pack. Hybrid gas guzzler

The amount of energy used to make a vehicle is variously quoted as between 5 and 10 times as much as the energy used to fuel it during its average life span. How can any hybrid vehicle claim to save energy? And, if all vehicles were hybrid, what would the price of copper be?
