Blade Design

04/14/2006 8:11 AM

I just happened to be an interested bystander recently in a meeting between a contractor and customer who were discussing Big Ass Fans (tm) to be installed in an indoor rodeo arena. The 24 foot diameter fans move 300,000 cfm air at 2 HP and 43 RPM, and they're going to install 4 of them. The blade design is one of the reasons the fans are so efficient, and it makes me wonder if they work as efficiently when subjected to wind. Here is a link to the manufacturer Big Ass Fans

That is a great name for a company. I'm sure I'll never forget it!
As for the fan design, I it would depend of the way the impeller is designed. Generally it has a lot to do with how it fits into the enclosure, in open air it might not work as well.
