Is there an average $/ft cost for monorail trains?

01/16/2008 6:15 PM

I'm doing a project for for a friend and I was wondering if there is an average $/ft cost to putting in a small monorail system ( i.e. 3 cars, short run) and can they handle elevation, such as a ski lift type thing. I'm just looking for round numbers as this is a theoretical business excercise.

Or is there are such average costs for the gondola cars. Although monorail would be cooler.

I doubt you will find an average cost. It is sort of like real estate, the price is dependent on "location, location, location".

If your talking about Las Vegas, multiply cost by 10, construction time by 3, and usefulness by 0.5.

how far do you want to go?

service a mountain?

just a novelty in the back yard?

People have built them in backyards quite cheap, some use wood as the rail, some use "I" beams, rubber wheels and a petrol motor,

anything substantial, you would have to talk to your local council too, adding cost

Isn't a monorail all about maglev? This would be interesting on a mountain slope...release the brakes and WOOSH! Zero friction decent!

Hello,

It is important to know that the rail and infrastructure will cost roughly 90 % of the total cost (of the train itself)

a gondola system would be far cheaper

reasons, why far cheaper. pylon bases are not mandated by distance, except maximum distance. in other words, they can be put wherever it is convienent. only need about a 12'x12' footprint. can pass over obstructions, without needing anything to be rebuilt. it was once considered in los angelos, ca.

In India Kokan Railway are offering such train services called sky rail. You can visit their web site or go to Google and type Kokan Railway you will land at proper address.
