FAILURE OF 'K' TYPE THEMOCOUPLE

WE ARE USING 'K' TYPE THERMOCOUPLE IN OUR CEMENT LANT FOR TEMP MEASUREMENT UP TO 1000 DEG. CENT.THE SPECIFICATION OF T/C IS AS UNDER.

INNER SEATH :MI CABLE WITH 6 MM DIA IS MADE OF SS310

OUTER PROTECTION SEATH : 22 MM OD/14 MM ID HRS 446 METAL

LENGTH: 1000 MM

APPLICATION:IN CEMENT PLANT CALCINER INLET TEMP. HAVING OPERATING TEMP. IS 870 TO 950 DEGREE CENT.SOME TIMRS IT GOES TO 1000 DEG.CENT.

LIFE WE ARE GETING IS: AROUND 15 TO 20 DAYS.

PLEASE GIVE YOUR SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT.

Oops, thought my post went through and it didn't.

Go to

and check out their sheaths. Sounds like you might have chloride accelerated corrosion. You may need Inconel or even Carpenter 20.

May want to consider 446 SS as a thermowell.

At that temperature I would not recomend a K-type anymore. Go for a N-type with a Nicrosil thermowell. I had good experience in a die decarbonizer/incinerator with oxidizing temperatures over 1000 °C.

Another option might be to go for a non-contact measurement system, like an laser thermometer.

HI,

My suggestion is please go for INCONEL 600 Material for inner & outer sheath because specified SS material work upto 800 Deg C only.
