Hi CN..,
= Embarrassed, like I've admitted to something shamefull (but probably funny)..
e.g. By the way I'm wearing my wife's underwear .

Not really sure about this one.. maybe I've done/said something cool/witty/smart.

Like but mabe a little bit more smug or naughty or just plain funny.. hey ho I s'pose a lot of it depends on context... with our variety of native languages they help to remove ambiguity. I generally try to be funny, but sometimes it can appear rude... an emoticon helps remove the ambiguity.
Also I may say something which is deliberately completely wrong...the or or etc will allert the reader to this
e.g. I think accountants and HR managers are seriously undervalued .

I enjoy the differences in language, it adds to the fun.

Surely, it's a smile from someone wearing glasses?

As compared to someone who isn't?

I believe this indicates that the person is concealing their identity. (Same as the Anonymous name in CR4 forums.)

According to CR4, = smiley_cool. It could just be 'trying to hide a hangover' though. (='sealed'.)

The Japanes are renowned for avoiding overt displays of emotion... do they insert dead-pan emoticons ?

They all have names. Right click, and hit save ( you don't have to proceed, just cancel after to back out of it). You will then see their names if you back space along the file name. ( eg ; = smiley_undecided ).

I don't know why , but some people seem to dislike them. I don't. ( = Smiley smile)

Re: what meaning these emoticon are?

Tongue in cheek is a tricky one to explain.

I pinched this definition;

The adjective tongue-in-cheek has one meaning:

Meaning #1: cleverly amusing in tone
Synonyms: bantering, facetious

The adverb tongue-in-cheek has 2 meanings:

Meaning #1: in a bantering fashion
Synonym: banteringly

Meaning #2: not seriously
Synonyms: facetiously, jokingly

Hope all the definitions people gave help you cnpower. It's great that you ask and seek clarification. Asking a good question is often harder than finding an answer. Yours is a good question.

Smiley-money-mouth ( ie-I like/want money)

Smiley-foot-in-mouth (ie- Oops, I said something wrong, though it looks more like 'drunk' or 'confused' to me ! )

< make as if going to save and you'll see the official names>

cool/good

shock/horror

innocent ( in a mildly self-mocking/joking manner)

I love you deeply and would like to have many children with you. Could we commence with some preliminaries such as kissing, before possibly progresing to a more intimate level ?

< Kris may be exagerating about that last one.>

'morph' means to change or transform. It's derived from ancient Greek language. It's usage is fairly recent, 'Transform' is probably the more accepted expression to use in general communications.

'Morph' is also the name of a cartoon type Character on UK Television ( he's a Claymation figure - made of clay, and moved very slightly between each successive shot in the film).
