There are a number of formulations. The one you use will depend on the properties you want? I believe they are all made by sintering, but am not up to date on this.

I've not seen large plates; how large do you want? Do you have a significant volume?

Alternatively, there might be other materials that would work; what's your application?

Hello jayantha61,

By "ferrite," do you mean the magnetic ceramic form used in ferrite beads, rods, and so forth for RF applications? If so, this wiki page may help to get you started. The page describes ferrite and ferrite-magnet materials and formulations.

Amidon specializes in ferrite products such as: pot cores, toroids, rods, beads and so forth used for RF applications. You might wanna check them out for ideas.

Hope this helps.

Ferrite is an interstiticial solid solution of carbon in Fe. It has BCC structure.

It has very low carbon (<0.008% by wt).

If you are looking for completely ferritic structure, ask for Ferritic Stainless Steel in the market.

It would be very difficult for you to manufacture it. You can easily get it in the market.

You can get details about various Ferritic Stainless Steels on Google.

If you not looking for Ferritic stainless steels and need information on Ferrites, you need to search articles through Google.

Ferrite is magic. In pedestrian terms, it is closely held, hard to achieve, not published way to get those wonderful results. Companies do not tell you anything, but the most general things about manufacturing. They tell you plenty, how good they are.

If I needed a round ferrite plate I never had the idea to "cook" it myself - don`t believe it`s easy. And noone of the big manufacturers will give you his receipe for free - containing lots of manyears of experience and sometimes millions of dollars for R&D.

Buy something, a little bigger than you need, and get it milled according to your required dimensions, thats cheaper and less painful.
Or get your plate manufactured in the right dimensions, provided you need high volume quantities (but if not, also "making" ferrites for your own is an illusion).
I`ve seen companies vanishing (and sinking money) who thought they would only need a vacuum oven and some kilos of raw material to bake their ferrites.

Regards Uwe

Just those two formulas? Surely you jest.

The word "ferrite" has different meanings in different contexts. Half of you are talking in the context of iron metallurgy and the other half are talking about magnetic materials.

My other half assures me that we're both talking about the same thing.

Concerning #11 and 12, the discussion is deteriorating into nonsense. The basic formula of ferrites is simple. The recipe, how to make it to work JUST SO will not be released, no matter how the clowns asking for it pressing. End of story. They want to copy it?? I wish them good luck. Will I press the guys spending millions to get it right, to release it thru this channel??? You got to be kidding!!

If you want to get it right, do the work, spend the money, risk your future, and then, if you get something right, I will buy it, characterise it, popularize it, But before YOU doing the heavy lifting?!? Are you nuts?!?
