HI,

What is the function of commutator in motor? Why it is required in the motor? One more question is what are split rings and its functions?

Why do you think that it is OK for you to cheat on your homework assignments by asking anonymous strangers to do your research for you?

You must be in school to be a manager, not an engineer.

Come on mate, you can't be that lazy! Use your brains a bit and look for the information! Type in the words, press the buttons, get the answers. Even a 10 year old can do it! If after an hour, you have no success, then maybe you should be asking your teacher for a bit of help!

Commutators are used in DC motors and generators to switch on and off, those armature coils which give the best magnetic reaction to the field coils, as the armature rotates. In a DC generator, this allows a crude sort of rectification of the output. Split rings simply are two insulated surfaces for two brushes to contact, to transmit power to a rotor or rotating multi pole field, which is used to induce a voltage in the output winding (stator). The latter is an AC generator (alternator). Questions are OK.
