There's some companies that use plasma arc's to make syngas (mostly hydrogen) out of waste, using the method of high heat in a oxygen free chamber to break down the molecules of the subtance. The syngas is then burned in a generator with oxygen. Same method with coal gasification, just most of them don't use plasma arc's. But coal gasification is said to be more efficient, and plasma arc's are also more efficient.
