Why ASTM A53S is not interchangeable with ASTM A106A. What is the major difference in these two material. Why not A53S is not used for High pressure/Temp. applications
By "A53S" I am assuming you mean A/SA 53 seamless.
A53 is the standard spec for steel pipe welded or seamless, A106 is the standard spec for seamless carbon steel pipe for high temperature service.
Depending on the use, there may be code requirements that determine which materials can be used where, but in terms of the chemistry and physical properties, there is very little difference.
The company I work for orders our high temperature pipe to be certified to all of the following A/SA106B, A/SA53B, API5L and CSA Z245.1. The standards are all very similar.
In practice, most A53 is used threaded and coupled, such pipe is usually thin wall welded, which would exclude it from dual certification to A106.
Hope this helps until a better explanation is given!
