Second Vista Beta Released, but Launch Could Slip

05/24/2006 11:30 AM

Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer, has stated that Windows Vista may not be released in Jan 2007. Vista, the long awaited operating system, has already been pushed back once this year; in March when it was moved from November 2006 to January 2007. If the date slips, it will be due to feedback on the second beta version of Vista, which was released yesterday. Of course any change in the launch of Vista will have great impact on PC and chip manufacturers who are looking for a boost to the sagging computer industry.

What a joke

05/24/2006 2:16 PM

How long is it going to take for microsoft to get this right? I'm sure it isn't bugs they're worried about. I think they are just trying to beat Google. I think Google should come out with an Operating System so Microsoft would get motivated to improve there product rather than worrying so much about getting a piece of the search pie.

Vista is definitely something that is worth waiting.

Requirements

05/25/2006 8:16 AM

The scary thing is that we had some people go to a demo of Vista and it has a minimum system requirement of 1 gig of RAM. Not sure that I want to upgrade my system like that when I don't see any features that I don't currently get in XP.

Only Windows Vista Ultimate requires 1GB. Keep in mind that is also a $399 edition of Vista not designed for the average consumer. All other editions require just 512MB.

Just ran across this. Beta is beta, but this is just poor programming.

That is by design. It must be a network shortcut--or from a removable device--thus the second confirmation of "can't be removed to recycle bin" and then the final one because you'd need administrator privleges (alternate credentials)--and that now requires confirmation--which is a new feature in Vista.

That so called "fifth" confirmation (I didn't see the fourth) is for emptying the recycle bin, a seperate operation altogether.

1 extra step from XP days.
