Software for the Design of Cars for Kids

05/30/2006 9:25 AM

I have a son who has great interest in cars and likes to collect and play with them. Is there anyone out there who knows of software for kids who can have access to play around with it for e.g., change any part of the unit or assembly? Change the colour and so on. Kindly get in touch with me as I would like my 6 year old son to build his interest in this field. Thank You.

Hot Wheels

Hot Wheels had a kit a while ago. Not sure if it's still available through. A quick look through the bargain bin might be just what you need. I'm going to get a fan during lunch; I'll see if I can spot any.

Wal-Mart

Both Hot Wheels and Hot Rod (yes, like the magazine)have software that is availible at your local Wal-Mart. I don't about the hot wheels program. A company named ValuSoft markets the Hot Rod software. The Hot Rod American Street Drags version should be pretty good for a 47 ... oops ... 6 year old as the interface is simple. They can replace different engine and chassis parts to create various proformance effects. Also they can paint the car with various colors and customize those colors and decals. The program can be modified with the included editor or unzipped (this came from ValuSofts Tech support) and modified more deeply. The program works with PhotoShop pro and other visual and editing programs. They can also race the differnt cars they build and buy and sell cars. Buy one car and part it out for extra money or race for points and cash(Dad or Mom Can build thier own car and race Kids on a lan connection too). It is a great game for kids of all ages. LOTS of learning potential in many different area of real life and lots of fun doing it. A rareity in todays automotive software world. All for about 10 bucks.

Gearhead Garage

05/31/2006 10:08 AM

My teenage boys spend a lot of time doing exactly as you have described using a program called Gearhead Garage. They actually design and build the cars, and then race them. That's about all I know of the details, since I am not invited to participate at all. I'm also not sure where it is available. Hope this helps.
