Crane Question

Four rollers are carring a 40 ton unbalanced weight- What must be the minimum capacity of each roller?

Funny, but not correct, The load is distributed evenly, each roller only needs to safely handle 20 tons. That said, the load is only unbalance to the point were it is not yet picked up by the crane.

After the full load in on the hook, the crane will only see a balanced load, how the load travels is a condition of the slings or chains.

If you watch a crane pick an "unbalanced" load, it either moves over the center of g, or it slides the load to move the center of g to directly under the hook.

Where does the crane come into it? OK, it was in the thread title, but the OP just stated that "Four rollers are carring a 40 ton unbalanced weight ...".

True, if "Four rollers are carring a 40 ton unbalanced weight ..." the way you read it, I'd say, Yup, the rollers need to support 40 tons.

But when I saw 'Crane' I thought about two rollers on the left and two rollers on the right, bridge in the middle, which is why I answered the way I did.

So, I think we are both right...
