What causes a belt to go off track mid-way down a conveyor?

Bad lace job. Belt not cut and installed perpendicular to the belts edge. Leaving one side longer then the other.

Improper tension on the take up roller. Leaving one edge loose compared to the other.

Bed of the conveyor not flat and level. Even on an incline the bed as it rises needs to be level side to side or the belt will move to the low side

Badly cut belt where it was not cut parallel with the weave in the cloth backing.

All of the above or in combination with each other.

If it's tracking correctly through the take-up, head end and tail end, you may have load rollers that have failed bearings on one side causing the belt to shift and ride up the sidewalls. The hanger for the rollers may also have been struck or shifted due to loose bolts and also caused the rollers to shift. Inspect your load rollers for wear or mis-alignment.

Place a pencil or dowel on a flat surface at about a 20 degree angle and place your hand on the pencil and roll it. You will notice your hand tracks toward the side that first comes in contact with the roller in the direction of travel. You may need to align your rollers to get proper tracking. This should only be used for load and return rollers. Your head end and tail end sections should be square and equal on both sides.

Your only other problem may be the camber of the belt being off. This may happen during production or improper storage.
