optical fibre communication

hi there guys, ny friends have been having this silly arguement for quite sometime now. the arguement is on how far can an optical fibre go?

Literally, as far as you can carry it.

Seriously, Such cables cross oceans and circle continents. The real question ought to be, how far it can carry signals without reamplification in repeaters. There are three generation of such cables in use: oldest with electronic repeaters every 100-300 kilometers, newer with only optical reamplifiers, and the newest without the need of any kind of repeaters for the whole length of the cable.

In addition, many websites on fibre optic cable technology and production give detailed explanation on this query. So, let the Guest google on fibre optic cables to see what's in the offing.
