Serial Number Imprinter for Plastic Components

03/10/2008 8:02 AM

Looking for a device with which to emboss or imprint serial numbers onto smallish plastic manufactured items. PET and HDPE and NYLON. Hot punch or laser? Any advice as to where to source this would be very much appreciated. Small production runs of 500 items/month. Location: Central East coast of Australia.

Thanks.

Given your material, try any local fibre laser company. Lasers can allow you to have a better result on a variety of surfaces and less damage to your parts. Most good laser companies will offer to test mark your materials for proof of concept.

Good luck!

I use to sell laser marking equipment for just this purpose. Laser is the way to go for marking plastics and metals with the least amount of damaged to the material. Depending on the type of mark(carbon migration), you may not even see or notice any visible distortion to the material. You also have the advantage of been able to change the content on the fly if you want to mark part X or Part Y. In addition to Domino, you may also want to take a look at http://www.mecco.com/.

Just a thought. If it is an infrequent job and only short runs, you will risk having the wrong part marked up. Why not mark the parts at the injection moulding stage?
