Anyone know of a source for 0-10 VDC output joystick certified for Div 1 and/or Div 2?

If the joystick in question is simply two variable resistors then they may be connected via intrinsic safety barriers to the safe area equipment. Variable resistors are classed as "simple apparatus" under the EEx 'i' method of explosion protection, and may be used freely in hazardous areas connected to circuits protected in that way.

Bear in mind that if the Heath & Safety Executive finds the operator using it inside a Zone 1 hazardous area, then the risk of prosecution will be not far behind.

Switches are also "simple apparatus" under EEx 'i'.

Explosion-proof switches do not need barriers, as the method of protection is EEx (d).

Otto Engineering

Mason Electric

Ultra-MSI (Ultra Electronics Measurement Systems)

Pricy, but they should have what you need.

If that doesn't satisfy, contact me by private email and get me you specifications and we can talk.

What kind of quantities are you after?

Just recently, I read about a force feedback joystick, entirely magnetic / electromagnetic. No switches, no contacts. The electromagnets float the magnets and there is feedback via LED diodes. The loopback is so tight, that a few micron movement is registering, and the feedback is adjustable to the force required. It is developed for top shelf gameplaying, but seem to fit your requirement to the T. If you do not find it, drop me a note, as I am sure it is in the last 2 weeks of my inbox, and I will search for it.
