I'm not sure, but I'd be willing to bet you're talking about the power saver 1200. My abbreviated answer would be no they don't save you any money, no they don't help your motors live longer.
However my supersaver 7200 does save money. Just send me 199 95, and I'll send you $20 worth of capacitors in a metal can. Guaranteed to save me money I won't have to go to the ATM. The big plus there is that it also saves you money, I'm selling at $100 cheaper than the other guy.
All kidding aside the matter has been thoroughly discussed on the following link.
PS. The link almost opens on my comment, scroll up and there is a link to the supersaver 1200 website and see were talking about the same thing, or possibly there's more competition and I'll have to lower my prices.

That's funny. Somehow other folks do that all the time and get over. Because we know better we simply don't think of setting up that sort of scam.
For our friend; recognize that you are talking about a scam worked on folks who don't understand, in all things you get nothing for nothing. Don't need to be an engineer to understand that.
You want to run air, have lights, etc., that takes energy. You can reduce your use of the energy but then you reduce the amount of light you use or the amount of chill or heat you use.
I was counting on the income from the sales of my device. Thanks, now I'm going to have to cancel my order on my new Hemi Challenger.
I'm probably a little more open-minded than most, as far as considering new technologies. This is led to some heated debates, on just what is and isn't a perpetual motion machine, With some members that I consider extremely knowledgeable.
You may be able to argue that entropy can be sidestepped, and Maxwell's Demon may be damned. One point is indisputable however you can't get something for nothing.
The number of free energy scams is increasing all the time, I'm sure with a heightened price of oil there's new vultures out there just waiting to prey on the unsuspecting. I'm thinking about starting a thread to discuss more of the scams.
The following link takes you to a site that if everything were true OPEC would be out of business, along with legitimate companies with budding energy conservation technologies. I mean why bother conserving, a couple of magnets and you can generate all the electricity you want. As long as their special magnets!
PS. Have monopole magnet for sale. The prototype works however my capacitor manufacturing company went out of business, and replacement capacitors necessitate some re working of my magnetic charger. Still accepting deposits however.
And believe it or not minus the monopole (why would I push their device when I can push mine) that is almost verbatim on a perpetual motion motor/generator that you can invest in.

Obviously, from the name of the site alone, tongue in cheek. Nonetheless, I wonder how many of their contributers realize that.
Human minds are funny things in that they are driven by need, sometimes extreme need, and unless you have been trained in continuous self reflection and the tools to use that position as an outside observer would, in this complicated and all too often hungary world, folks will buy almost anything. That of course is the source of your tech jokes.
But it really doesn't take much to train folks in the basics, at least conceptually, conservation/conversion of all material reality.
Before the general understanding of convertability, hence no destruction, I at least, got in NY's elementary schools the first part, conservation of energy. With that at base conceptually one does not have to look in detail at all these schemes to save the world or make a quick buck.
I no longer have the capacity to engage in industrial activity because I would no longer work fast enough to be profitable but I must say this web site is fascinating because I can look at the problems without getting my hands dirty and engage my brain which was always the fun part of industrial maintenance.

You forgot to mention greed. Many are looking to make a fast buck, and invest in and de facto lend an air of credibility to these scams. For them "let the buyer beware'' is probably good enough.
As you said the tragedy is that many times the ones that can least afford it get suckered into the scams. Though I tend to joke, that part is no joke. I haven't sent anything to send to the administrators of this site, but I intend to do so.
If you google the forums cr4 subjects regularly appears in your search. Possibly they would be receptive to starting a thread specifically to enlighten people, hopefully then it would get picked up by the general public in a Google search. There's more than enough knowledge available by members to debunk just about any scam.
I certainly would be happy to volunteer some time in the endeavor. Besides I'd love to be a fly on the wall, when one of these scams stirrers reads what I have to say about them as well what some other posts have to say.

Make a list of the scams based on illusory scientific claims and then progressively work through and debunk them. Might be a fun way to teach basic science, principles of electricity, physics, etc.
Truth be to tell, from some of the questions that come up here, it is quite clear that there are a good number of people working in industry who have not had the advantage of a good base in operating principles.
You might call it P.T. Barnum's Page of Bunkum Industry and Products or some such.
