Automatic Bend Machine for bolts

03/17/2008 4:35 PM

Dear Sirs

We are looking for a automatize bend machine . We manufacture a part(bolt) 1/2" -12 WW ( material is SAE 1004), in a Bolt-Former,and the last process is to bend it in Excentric Press that made a curve in accordance to the design(radius=23,80 mm);this step is a "neck" in our process,so we are interested in to automatize it,we think some equipment as a Bend Machine could be adapted to do this .We need to manufacture at least 500,000 pieces/month . I know . You can help me ! Thanks., Marcus

Dear Marcus,

Sounds a little bit like you are manufacturing anchor bolts. There are anchor bolt machines that will bend your bolts to your spec's as fast as you can load and unload the stock. In one of my past lives, I worked in the Fastener Industry. When I needed to have custom bolts manufactured, Portland Bolt was always a quality source. Portland Bolt will either have a machine to sell or a lead to a machine manufacturer. You can contact Portland Bolt Company, Portland, Oregon, USA at 1-800-547-6758, email sales@portlandbolt.com, interner link http://www.portlandbolt.com/.

I agree - it sounds like he is making anchor bolts - either a "J" bolt with a 180 degree bend on the unthreaded end, or one that has more of an "L" shape with a 90 degree bend.

I would imagine the machine that could do this would make the bends similar to how the individual links are bent when welded chain is manufactured. The bend it's self does not take very long, loading and unloading will likely take the most time.

I'm thinking the bender could effect a clamp while other machining is applied.
