How to solve the Vapour lock problem in Deareator.....!

How to solve the Vapour lock problem in Deareator.....!

Brief description of our system: We are having three STG sets(STG-1,STG-2,STG-3) of each 15MW capacity. And there is common Deareator for all the three sets with feed pumps for individual sets. For deareating water we are using bleed steam from STG-3 to common deareator and whenever threre is tripping of STG-3 there is non availability of steam for deareator and causing the vapour lock in other two STG sets Boiler feed pumps and tripping of other two units(STG-1 & STG-2) due to vapour locking problem in respective STG BFPs.

Your question is a bit puzzling? A three stage turbine is a reheat? but you have three feed pumps? and a common feed range. and feed heater steam from STG-3? can you please explain?

I tend to agree that this problem is likely too complex to bridge the obvious language barrier. A flow diagram would help.

That being said, I think you need to reconfigure for addition of emergency back-up heat to the deareator.

Of course, a detailed review by an experienced chemical engineer specializing in water treatment couldn't hurt (shameless plug ) www.bradleyventures.com

A common deareator is provided for all the three sets however the bleed steam for heating and devapourisation is taken from STG-3 only. Better practise is to take steam for common deaerator from a comman header where bleed steam of all the three sets are connected. This will ensure availablity of steam to Deaerator during tripping of any set.

Its normal practice I think to refer to the development, or building, of a power station as being done in stages, so taking steam from STG-3 I think can be safely be considered to be UNIT-3. On the tripping of unit 3, I would speculate the following, (1) on loss of heating to the Deaerator the cooler water from the other units causes a partial vacuum in the Deaerator, (2) the other two units picks up the load, and there is a demand for the other feed pumps to put extra feed to the boiler, this will further increases the vacuum in the Deaerator causing a loss of head pressure to the feed pump suction?

Normally the Deaerator is placed at some higher level, and this should not happen, but if the demand is from a single Deaerator that is a bit small? then one can only speculate that the demand is greater than the supply from the hot well for a short enough period for the loss of head to occur.

Like I said this is speculation only.

Try a mechanical vacuum pump for deareator !
