"The Portable Light Team at KVA MATx has developed a portable textile that uses sunlight to harvest electrical energy and provide a completely self-contained source of renewable power and light that can be deployed at a global scale where ever energy-efficient electrical power and illumination are needed."
in other words, they are experimenting with solar cells in a culturally acceptable format, to enable people in areas with no electrical service to harvest solar energy during the day, and then have light at night to read, study, and work. I first read about this in the WeaveARealPeace newsletter, and I saw somewhere (but don't remember where now) of optic fibers being developed that could actually be woven into traditional textiles to turn them into wearable solar cells.
