Sustainibility engineering projects:

ECOLOGY: - Saving our earth

  • SEProjects: What is Sustainability Engineering or Engineering for Sustainability? The Center for Sustainable Engineering gives a complete description of Sustainability Engineering. This is the definition in a nutshell:
"Sustainable Engineering may be defined as engineering for human development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Bruntland Commission, 1987)."
Sustainability Engineered Projects are a freely available voluntary effort to provide alternatives to the high cost fossil fuels that pollute the atmosphere, water, and earth, to fight global warming, and within the guidelines of the Center for Sustainable Engineering.
  • MESS-SEProject My Earthbound Space Station - a Sustainability Engineered Project.
  • APIX-SEProject Agro-Polymer Industry Complex - a Sustainability Engineered Project. INVITATION
  • HARP-SEProject Houston Area Recycling Proposal - a Sustainability Engineered Project.
  • PAL-SEProject Projects Avaluable for hands-on Learning - Sustainability Engineered Projects for hands-on experience with sustainability engineering for 4H Clubs, FFA, and school aged children everywhere.
    • ULTIMATE LAWNMOWER Build a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Lawnmower.
    • BIO DIGESTION Making Natural Gas in your septic tank.
    • FAST Using Fuel Alcohol Still Technology
    • CHP A simple Combined Heat/Power unit for home heating and electric power.
    • SYNGAS Using steam Reformation to convert solid waste into fuel gases.
    • SUN OVEN: Concentrating the Sun's energy to bake a County Fair prize winning cake or fry up a chicken dinner with the sun.
    • SOLAR HOT WATER HEATER: Heat the water with the Sun for your next shower. Build an outdoor shower for washing off the salt after your next visit to the Galveston Beach.
    • SOLAR HYDROGEN: Use Solar Cells to make Hydrogen from water.
    • WIND TURBINE: An experimental desigh for creating a wind turbine to drive a oil hydrolic motor to power gernerator that is at grade level. The wind turbine will be designed as a "pusher" type mounted on the top of a 20 foot high ham radio tower at the back of our home.

Hi tank

Greetings

Your presentation of the different SEP's is quite apt, and matters of fact - well collated and brought out in "one go"

Perhaps you might have also seen the thread:

http://cr4.globalspec.com/comment/202285

The Bruntland Commission Definition is what the UN also has considered - even certain sites of "GLOBALSPEC" (the owners of CR4, if I am not wrong) have referred to this definition.

However, the idea in raking up a discussion, as aforementioned, is to evolve a more universal Engineering Systems Definition, for which a "start" has been made in our own attempt to define Sustainability Engineering. Moreover, it is also felt that at the moment the Concept of Sustainable/ Sustainability Engineering seems to have various "personalized" meanings ... almost all of them talking of Climate, Energy, Global warming etc in a loose manner, without CODIFYING and Systematizing. By these we mean the collection, collation and specifications of certain SETS of Definable and Measurable Concepts that form the Engineering Standards in Sustainability Engineering ... as in all other Professional Engineering systems (Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, and so on)

Your experienced observations are always valued and would be our source of guidance

Best wishes

Hari and all,

Please note that the above presentation is not use to define SEP but to give examples of many actual working project, some well along and some yet to begin. With this definition and examples, it is hoped that many can fine those projects that most suit their talents and concerns. For years, we have heard much talk but little action. You, and a few others are taking direct action and are the pioneers in applying engineering to the real needs of humanity.

Please note, what I posted to start this phase of this topic is a section from my domain, http://www.chtank.org/, which is simply titled "Science and Related Studies". This site is divided into four sections. Education, Physics, Engineering, and Science Faction. I have also posted the Education section into the Education forum of CR4. It is my hope that by doing so, I have helped promote APIX and MESS and that others will join into these and the other projects, contrubuting directly to each or providing their own related projects. We must remember, it not only "takes a village to raise a child" but it takes a village to raise humanity. Society and mankind advances when working together as a team of collective cooperation.

Hi tank

Greetings

The tremendous amount of spade works done by you and garth in not only exposing the themes of APIX-SEP and other such works, but also in creating a catalyst for more interactions is highly invaluable ... which no amount of rhetorics and other paraphernalia would bring forth

Your statement that "Society and mankind advances when working together as a team of collective cooperation" is well taken and accepted as sacrosanct.

Best wishes
