Porous SiC or SiO2

03/27/2008 8:01 AM

Does anyone know a commercial source for large quantities of porous, honeycomb structures made from either SiC or SiO2?

Structural strength is not critical.

Silica Gel which is SiO2 is hugely porous which is how it works as a dessicant adsorbing up to 1/3 its weight in water vapor from the air.

Auto Manufactures use Alumina honeycomb supports for emission catalysts. These suppliers(like Engelhart) may also be a source for SiO2 honeycombs.
