Firefox stops running

03/29/2008 9:36 AM

Well I was using ZoneAlarm AV, and one day I saw that it's icon was missing, so I tried to run it again with no luck, then I tryed to install other AV BitDefender, that is where I found out that my Firefox couldn't connect to the internet, my Outlook and MSN all work fine, after 10 minutes that I start my computer I just can't surf the web, I guess it has to be a virus, but can't find out which one it is.

If some one had this problem please a little help, I don't want to reinstall my computer yet!!!

You might find some useful information here. Apparently, your not alone.

yes I have been reading about many people that have this same problem, on one side, I find the virus on my computer but can't delete it, on the other side I can't connect to the internet, so searching for information and updates, virus removal tools is turning out to be very difficult.

any help on finding a good AV perhaps one that could boot in a USB Flash Drive or something like that???

Hello cdelareza

Start your MS Internet Explorer, Browser, if you can do that.

Use: a-squared Free 3.1 - go to: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/

Download it and run it, that should enable removal of the Trojan.

Download your ZoneAlarm afresh, (Better to use ZoneAlarmPro) re-instal, from: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/home.jsp

Instal Software with 24/7 Guard facility, good ones are:

(Free) AVG Antivirus from: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/

(Free) System Checkup, from http://www.iolo.com/:

Webroot from: http://www.webroot.com/En_US/index.html

(Free Trial, then subscription) Trojan Hunter 5 from: http://www.misec.net/

Free Trial, then Subscription) a-squared Anti-Malware 3.1 from: http://download3.emsisoft.com/a2AntiMalwareSetup.exe

When completed, re-instal Firefox Browser, but only from the official Site: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Advise your status

Please note that because no single Security Utility has the 100% hit rating, it is necessary to run several Security Utilities, simultaneously, on a 24/7 basis, then set the scans up to run each night, one Utility after the other, to keep your PC clean.

Kind Regards....

Wow you've really run the gamut.

I've tried quite a few but zone alarm has always served me well and matter of fact have only had problems when not using zone alarm.

I just advised someone to install FireFox and the AVG products anti-virus and spy-ware.

I have been running AVG for some three months. Just installed FireFox on this machine today but have run it for months on other machines.

Whenever I fire up a new machine the first thing I install right after getting on line are the AVG items. I have Norton and McAffee came on this machine but AVG seems to do the best job.

Well BitDeffender found and removed many viruses that Zone Alarm didn't find, now I've reinstalled my computer and everything is working back again.

I'll get all the protection you recommended, it never took me so long and so much work to remove a virus from my computer.

Hello cdelareza

Thank you for advising that your problem is now solved.

I started on the Internet in the early 1990's, and in those days, there had not been released much malware onto the Internet.

The problem these days is the large reservoir of infected Computers, connected 24/7 to the Internet, which act as Zombie Computers.

Kind Regards....
