STANDARD MAN-HOURS FOR DESIGN ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES PROJECTS

03/30/2008 12:41 PM

How can i get the standards man-hours to do activities of design engineering (conceptual, definition or basic engineering and detail engineering) for oil and gas industry projects. For example deliverables (design criteria, design basis, simulations reports, studies geo-technical, ambient impact studies, philosophy of control, specifications of different equipments, drawings, specification packages to bid construction of the all disciplines involves respectively: process, mechanical, civil, control & instrumentation, electrical, environmental, QA/QC) of typical flow stations, dehydration & desalting plants, gas compression plants, oil and gas pipelines, pumping stations and treating gas plants. The most of estimator´s man-hours handbooks treat only man-hours for construction activities and i don´t know if Richardson´s Cost Engineering Manual has it. Please who could help me? I appreciate so much!

I do not believe you will find exactly what you are looking for. The best source for such information will be with project management groups and the project management 'body of knowledge' (PMBOK) and also a book called the "Standard Handbook of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering.. send me your email address.

Go to the web site "pipingdesigners(dot)com" and find the E-mail address for JOP (personal profile).

Send your question via E-mail. You will get some help.

Hi,

It's not standardized but seems look common practice to define man-hours for design engineering.

What you should to do is more practice based on lesson learned as you have it. It's unique and need some self talent to define and improvement with some parameter (s).

Currently I did some observation with "man-hour index" which can do straight to correcting the first estimate prior finalization man-hours.

The following MHI is starting from 0.25 till 1 as the maximum number. It's really attractive number that can consider. However those MHI numbers depend on your post experience to define it and implement.

Enjoy your hot coffee,

Cheers
