lamination design

03/31/2008 4:44 PM

how to understand the efficiency of lamination slot profiles used in asynchronous motor construction , who can guide me to understand how the design can be put improve motor performances.the company I work for uses laminations designed some 50/60 years ago, and can any one throw light on this subject, what aspects are important in the design and use of laminations in building motors in single phase and three phace motors, for multiple speeds, and power outputs.

I regularly do the design of Three Phase and Single Phase Stampings.

The design is based on the basic objectives to be attained. Usually there are constraints from manufacturing process or toolings which may not allow changes in OD, Bore Dia, Slot entry geometry (if machine wound) etc. Also the objectives of efficiency and pf, starting conditions etc are also to be met. Total Cost (Initial tooling, and material cost) is the main consideration.

This is a task which may involve working out many alternatives before finalising the design.
