Bubbly Space

06/21/2006 8:30 AM

Space is fizzing. Above our heads, where the Earth's magnetic field meets the constant stream of gas from the Sun, thousands of bubbles of superheated gas are constantly growing and popping.

In Universe Today of June 20th, look at the stunning graphic of the bow-shock where the solar wind and Earth's magnetosphere meet. Exactly what causes the fizz is not quite clear, according to an ESA News Release.
