i am trying to complete a world class oil storage station

my concern is that to get the high viscosity fluids to flow from the barrels and through the filters i will need to pressurıse the barrels wıth compressed air

question is will the air be forced into the oil then later cause airiation problems in the system?

World class Oil Distirbution System alright, blow air into a barrel and you will have oil every where, that will be "World Class". Oil drums will not take anymore than 5 psi with out distortion. Probably burst at 30 psi. Whats wrong with pumping the oil?

Mixing high viscous fluids with air will creates a problem of extracting the air out at the end of the process. In addition to the problem of rising the pressure inside the barrels, which may not be withstand that pressure as mayt2u told you. Also, the oil have a chance to be aerated which may have a bad effect on the oil specifications. I think using a pump is more efficient.

What is the viscosity of the oil? If it is to "thick" then try warming it up first. Either place the drums in a heated room (not very efficient) or use band style heaters. A couple on the drum and one around the filter should be more than sufficient. I personally know someone who was almost killed doing what you have suggested. De-heading a drum with compressed air can happen very fast. He was transferring used oil to an elevated storage tank for his waste oil shop heater.

Go on e-bay and look under waste oil pumps, there is a guy that sells a very good pump/motor set up that will pump out a barrel in a couple of minutes. He can also sell you a complete setup with filters too. Remember to drain the water off the bottom if you can and the oil sets for awhile. Also be careful not to pick up the oil sludge if you can help it. I would suggest a couple of strainers with progressive smaller screens before the filters if not, you will be changing filters constantly. I pump from my storage tank (your barrels) through my filter skid and into a level controlled "day tank" I filter to 25 microns. You can build your on setup for a fraction of the cost of buying one as I did. It is basically a hydraulic gear pump and a 1/2 hp electric motor a bunch of pipe fittings, hose and filters. I am only filtering about 20 gallons a day to run my glass furnace burner but I could easily run a few hundred gallons in a day if I could burn it. i use a heater on my day tank and heat the oil to about 150 degrees F and then I t gets heated again to 270 at my burner nozzle. The band heaters work good as does the cartridge heaters, you can get heater mats that are made for barrels at Mc Master Carr as well.
